WIND SHEAR!

An Abrupt Change in Wind Speed or Direction if wind shear is encountered use a bit more speed on final approach.

Microburst



Winds intensify for about 5 minutes after ground contact.

Dissipates from 10 to 20 min after ground contact. Can have horizontal wind differences between 50 and 100 knots! Can also have vertical speeds up to 3000ft per minute!

THunderstorms

Avoid them by 20 miles 

Three stage of a thunderstorm are Cumulus , Mature and Dissipating.

Clear Ice

Very small, supercooled droplets that freeze on contact.  ( Most Common ice) Milky or opaque appearance with air bubbles that become trapped between frozen droplets. Climb to get above the clouds to a colder level before you can not climb at all.  If you can't do that see if you are able to get to a warmer level below the clouds.

Large close to freezing droplets that flow back across the wing before freezing. Hard ,  glossy, heavy and hard to dislodge.  This is not often seen. Associated with large cumulus clouds and turbulence. Get out of it to a warmer sport asap!

Shallow Fog normally less than 300ft thick.  Ground fog is a formation of radiation fog used for fog less than 20ft thick.


CONDITIONS 

clear sky - no wind - small temp and due point spread ( hight humidity )  Common in the morning.

Moist air moves over colder ground or water and then carried inland by the wind. 


Offshore as a result of cold water and then carried inland by the wind.

Stable air being cooled as it moved up sloping terrain.  Once the upslope wind stops the fog will disappear.

OXYGEN - UNPRESSURIZED AIRCRAFT

1. Above 12,500 thru 14000 for more than 30 mins pilot MUST USE OXYGEN.

2. Above 14,000 Pilots must use oxygen the ENTIRE TIME.

3. Above 15,000 each occupant must be provided with supplemental oxygen for the entire time.
